Market Snapshot
The US dollar is firmer heading into one of the busiest central-bank weeks of the year. The RBNZ and Bank of Canada decide on Wednesday, the Federal Reserve announces early Thursday (Malaysia time), the ECB follows on Thursday and the Bank of Japan on Friday. Investing.com reports the dollar index rose about 0.1% to 0.2% in Asian trade to around 102.05. The yen is giving back last week’s safe-haven gains, and the euro is still under pressure from worries about French public finances.
Overnight & Asian Session Recap
- Dollar firm, yen softer: USD/JPY gained about 0.1% to 0.2% to around 157.70 as demand for the yen as a safe haven faded. Last week that demand was driven by worries over AI stock valuations (Investing.com).
- Euro and sterling slip: EUR/USD and GBP/USD each eased about 0.1%, with cable near 1.3331 (Investing.com). ActionForex notes that Moody’s kept France at Aa3 with a negative outlook. French bonds rallied after the decision, but the euro got little relief, and EUR/GBP and EUR/CHF are still near key support (ActionForex).
- Commodity currencies: AUD/USD rose about 0.1% to 0.7025 and NZD/USD about 0.3% to 0.5695 (Investing.com). The Canadian dollar steadied on Monday after seven straight sessions of gains against the US dollar (Investing.com).
- Japan data: The BoJ’s core CPI came in at 2.4% y/y, above the 1.9% forecast (ForexFactory). ActionForex reports that services producer inflation rose to 3.7%.
- Bonds: ActionForex reports US 10-year Treasury yields hovering around 5% (ActionForex).
Major Pairs – Technical View
US Dollar Index (DXY): FXDailyReport says the index turned higher again before the FOMC meeting. It keeps a bullish tone, with 103.00–103.74 as the main upside target zone (FXDailyReport).
EUR/USD: The pair is under bearish pressure below 1.1185. Support: 1.1185, 1.1120, then 1.1000. Resistance: 1.1300, 1.1360 (FXDailyReport). ActionForex keeps the intraday bias neutral and expects more downside while 1.1276 holds. A break below 1.1111 would open the way to the 1.0904 Fibonacci level (ActionForex). FXEmpire puts the daily pivot near 1.1195 and sees downside risk toward 1.10 (FXEmpire).
GBP/USD: The pair was rejected at its 200-day SMA and is sitting near support. Support: 1.3330, 1.3300, 1.3250. Resistance: 1.3450, 1.3600. Sellers stay in control while the pair is capped below its moving averages (FXDailyReport).
USD/JPY: FXEmpire has the pair around 157.46, with support at 156.50 and resistance at 159.00. It favours buying dips if the Fed sounds hawkish. ActionForex keeps the intraday bias neutral: a break of 156.06 would point back to 152.87, and a move above 159.02 would target 160.38 (ActionForex). FXDailyReport is still bearish below 158.89, with support at 155.50 and 154.00.
AUD/USD: ActionForex has a mild upside bias. A sustained break of 0.7024 would target 0.7106, and a move below 0.6993 would turn the bias neutral (ActionForex). FXDailyReport is more cautious: support at 0.7000 and 0.6820, resistance at 0.7160.
USD/CAD: ActionForex has a mild downside bias. A sustained break of 1.3986 would extend the fall toward 1.3792, while a move above 1.4080 would turn the bias neutral (ActionForex). Wednesday’s BoC decision is the key catalyst.
USD/CHF: ActionForex keeps the intraday bias neutral. A move below 0.8190 would target 0.8092, and 0.8332 (the 2023 low, now resistance) is the level that would confirm further upside (ActionForex).
Gold (XAU/USD)
Gold is consolidating near the $4,000 psychological support (around $4,018.60). FXDailyReport calls the broader trend bearish. A sustained drop would target $3,834, and rebounds face resistance at $4,110–$4,170, then $4,250 (FXDailyReport). ActionForex notes that gold has fallen 4.74% since 9 October, while silver has fallen 11.52% (ActionForex).

Outlook
The market is positioning ahead of the central-bank decisions, so a range-bound session with a mildly firmer dollar looks most likely until Wednesday. Volatility risk moves through the time zones: Australian CPI and the RBNZ (where a hike to 3.00% is expected) during Asian hours on Wednesday, then the UK Budget and the BoC, then the Fed. ActionForex sees the RBNZ and BoC as the decisions most likely to cause a meaningful repricing. Key levels to watch:
- EUR/USD: 1.1111–1.1120
- GBP/USD: 1.3300–1.3330
- USD/JPY: 156.50 / 159.00
